X-WR-CALDESC:Trail Access Project invites our past participants with limite
d mobility and one guest to a picnic and adaptive hike in Red Rock Canyon
National Conservation Area on March 21. There is a 1/2 mile elevated board
walk loop adjacent to our picnic area and appropriate for hour own wheelch
airs and scooters. The loop is ADA compliant and takes you to red sandsto
ne outcrops while protecting a sensitive meadow. The trail has several ram
ps of 30 feet length at 8% grade with flat resting areas in between. Volun
teers will be available for a push if needed. Trail Access Project is prov
iding picnic boxes and drinks. There are two 'vault' toilets at the picnic
  area.\n\nWHEN: Saturday\, March 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. \n \nLOCAT
ION: The event will be held at the Red Spring Picnic Area and Boardwalk at
Calico Basin within Red Rock Canyon NCA. Drive 3.8 miles west of the 215
on West Charleston Boulevard (Nevada Highway 159). Turn right into Calico
Basin and go 1 mile to Red Spring Picnic Area. No fee or permit is require
d to enter Calico Basin. \n\nPARKING: The area is popular with hikers so
the large parking lot fills quickly. If you are willing to wait\, regular
parking spaces usually vacate often. There are 7 accessible parking spot
 s. If the lot is full\, individuals can be dropped off at the picnic table
s\, and then the driver can park out on the Calico Basin road shoulder. If
you are parking a side-ramp van on the shoulder\, try to park so that the
ramp accesses the pavement. The shoulder is sandy and steep in some place
s.\n\nTRANSPORTATION: We know that some individuals rely on RTC Paratransi
t for transportation\, but Paratransit doesn’t go to Red Rock Canyon. To h
elp with this shortfall\, Trail Access Project is renting two wheelchair r
amp vans to drive from an RTC Transit Station that Paratransit does servic
 e. Each van carries two wheelchairs and will be driven by volunteers. Add
itional details will be confirmed once we receive your request.\n
