Intro to Adaptive Mountain Biking at Late Night Trailhead, Red Rock Canyon, With Lasher Sport Handcycles
This is an introductory handcycle ride for those new to adaptive mountain biking (not a haul-ass downhill mountain bike run!) Our electric assist handcycles are considered mobility devices on this trail that does not allow motorized vehicles, and so we need to respect that special allowance and other trail users.
You must be able to transfer into and out of the handcycle seat that is 12 inches above the ground. Bring your trusted transfer help. We have a motorized chair lift and a Hoyer lift to assist with transfer height differences from your wheelchair to the handcycle. Moderate grip and core strength are needed for pedaling and braking.
The E-assist output is adjustable, and the handcycle can be driven using only the thumb throttle lever on the left hand pedal without pedaling. Braking is with finger-grip levers on both hand pedals. Gear shifting is with right hand thumb and finger levers.
It is highly recommended that the rider is knowledgeable of bicycle gear shifting.
We provide required full-face helmets and elbow pads.
Location: (State Route 160/Pahrump Valley Highway, Las Vegas, NV 89123)
Travel 15 miles west on State Route 160 from its intersection with I-15/Las Vegas Freeway to reach the parking area.
Tickets are free, but registration is required.
Bring drinking water. There is no water at the trailhead.
The area is pet friendly. Please clean up after your pets.
Practice “Leave No Trace”!
PLEASE NOTE: If that it turns out that you cannot attend after you have registered, please let us know as soon as possible so that our volunteers don't tow the equipment up the mountain and wait for you.
We need time to board the adaptive equipment, hike, and enjoy nature and our friends. We will return to the parking lot by 3:00 to get you back into your wheelchairs.
